Oil marketers have blamed lack of access to foreign exchange at competitive price for staying away from the importation of premium motor spirit (petrol), ten months after the Federal Government deregulated the downstream sector of the oil and gas industry.
Following the killing of the owner of Subawah petroleum, Alhaja Sherifat Adisa, by unknown gunmen, the petroleum dealers and marketers under the umbrella of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has ordered the shutdown of all filling stations in Ibarapa region of Oyo State. The Ibadan depot of IPMAN has also threatened to shut down all filling stations in the state if the situation continues unabated. The Chairman of IPMAN, Ibadan Depot, Alhaji Bukola Mutiu, in a statement, said the closure of all filling stations in Ibarapa area of the state is a warning to the Oyo State government to urgently arrest the growing trend of killings and kidnapping of petroleum dealers in the state.

Ibadan, Jan. 5, 2021 The Oyo State Chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC), has advised Gov. Seyi Makinde to adopt the security template of late Gov. Abiola Ajimobi towards addressing security challenges in the state.
This is contained in a statement signed by the state APC interim Publicity Secretary, Dr AbdulAzeez Olatunde on Tuesday in Ibadan.
Olatunde said that Makinde should have built on the security template inherited from his predecessor to sustain peace in the state.
“Sen. Abiola Ajimobi came out with the novel OPERATION BURST during his tenure as the state governor.
“The effort secured Oyo State people for the eight solid years and the good people of the state attested to it with accolades at the expiration of his tenure,” he said.

The year 2020 has undoubtedly been one of the most difficult years for the oil and gas industry globally in the last few decades.
It saw the Coronavirus pandemic grip nations across the globe, necessitating countries and states to lock down their borders for some time, thereby preventing movement of persons, goods and services for months unless under special circumstances.
This restriction of movement affected many sectors of the economy, but one of the worst hit was the oil and gas industry which fuels mobility of mankind and businesses across the globe.
With a sharp drop in air and land movement, the demand for Jet A1 (Aviation fuel) , Diesel and Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as petrol declined drastically.
