THE National Petroleum Marketing Company Ltd (NP) on Wednesday responded to a claim from Petroleum Dealers Association (PDA) president Robin Narayansingh that it received a total of $600 million from Government through the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) but did nothing to upgrade or maintain service stations. In a statement, NP said it has received no PSIP funding since 2013. The company said notwithstanding this, it has spent over $225 million of its own funds to maintain and upgrade the service station network throughout the country.

EPDA faces slippery neglect by government -

The leadership of the association that was formed in 1970s currently has 120 members of which the members are expressing neglect. They expressed that despite being at hot point in the petroleum business, the government hasn’t shown any interest in discussing with them the sector challenges that they are facing. Henok Mekonnen, chair of the board of directors of EPDA, said that from time to time the sector has been facing massive challenges that lead dealers to change their activity to other businesses.

Telangana suffered a 30% fall in the sales in the last financial year, resulting in Rs 1,000 crore drop in income. In January last year, the state’s average petrol sales hovered at 4,000 kilolitres, which dropped to 3,000 kl last month. The fall was seen more in diesel sales.
