Local nonprofit, Keep Dalton-Whitfield Beautiful has won a national Keep America Beautiful Innovation Award for their 2020 project with local high schooler and talented artist Abbie Burt called “Art Can Inspire.” This national award is chosen for innovative programs and partnerships that help create clean, green and beautiful places in our community. This year 16 of 686 affiliates were recognized for their work.

Central Bucks South student creates welcome boxes for kids in foster care

“You look great today, just like always!” “You are amazing!” These and similar phrases of encouragement are just a sample of what a Bucks County teen is adding to the colorful care packages she’s designed to brighten the lives of local foster children. Chakrika Aluri, a Central Bucks South High School sophomore, has plenty more goodies in store, including games, snacks, toiletries, school supplies and books. She’s asking the community’s help in donating supplies for her Project Welcome Box drive next Wednesday afternoon at her school’s campus at 1100 Folly Road in Warrington from 3 to 4 p.m. 

Girl Scout delivers cookies, kindness to veterans

Some military veterans may be experiencing the ongoing pandemic crisis through the scope of prior wartime theaters. These servicemen and women are among the communities most vulnerable and for whom Jessie Vandergriff, a Coral Shores High School senior working toward the Girl Scouts Gold Award, has aimed to serve. “I want to make sure everyone is aware that there are people out there still having a hard time. There are people who were struggling before the pandemic and now that everyone is struggling, it’s easy to forget about the ones who have been,” Vandergriff said. “This is why I wanted to do something for our veterans and military personnel.”
