RICHMOND Governor Ralph Northam has proclaimed May 3–7, 2021 as Teacher Appreciation Week in the Commonwealth and is encouraging all Virginians to participate by sending personalized thank-you notes to recognize educators for their service and dedication to students. This year’s sixth annual Thank a Teacher campaign, sponsored by the Virginia Lottery in partnership with the Virginia Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and The Supply Room, celebrates the important role of teachers in Virginia and highlights the talent of young artists by featuring student artwork on each thank you note.

CHESTERFIELD Co., Va. (WWBT) - Thereâs a new place for the smallest Virginians to learn after the ribbon was cut Friday for the new Early Childhood Learning Academy in Chester.
The center is located in the former Harrowgate Elementary building and will serve pre-kindergarten students from 12 schools in the eastern and southern portions of Chesterfield County.
At the ceremony, First Lady Pamela Northam and the schoolâs principal discussed the importance of children being prepared for their later school years.

RICHMOND â Governor Ralph Northam signed legislation Wednesday that increases access to affordable early childhood care and education by expanding eligibility criteria for Virginiaâs Child Care Subsidy Program. There is power in every childâand great beginnings lead to tremendous futures, Governor Northam said. Thatâs why expanding access to quality early childhood care and education has been a top priority of our Administration from day one. Today, Iâm proud to celebrate our latest effort to reshape Virginiaâs early learning system. This bill will help get Virginians back to work, and get our children prepared for success in school and beyond.

Fairfax County now has enough supply to vaccinate whoever wants to be vaccinated, the county health department announced yesterday (April 28).
This comes only a week after the county said there wasn’t enough vaccine to meet the new demand from eligibility expanding into with the move to Phase 2. Several days after that, vaccine appointments on Vaccine Finder still remained hard to come by due to the short supply.
But that has now changed, thanks to an increase in supplies at the state and federal levels, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jeff McKay told Reston Now.
Plus, he says, there are now more providers giving vaccines including grocery stores and pharmacies as well as private practices.
