Norfork’s girls punched their ticket to Hot Springs after winning in the semifinals of the Class 1A State Tournament at West Side High School in Greers Ferry. The Lady Panthers were able to beat the host Lady Eagles 54-48.
Rural Special will be Norfork’s opponent Thursday at Bank OZK Arena after eliminating another area team. Viola was edged out by the Lady Rebels 56-53.
Viola fared better on the boys’ side knocking off the defending state champions. The Longhorns defeated Nevada by a final of 66-62.

The head coaching transition from boys to girls high school basketball has gone well for Josh Bateman. The longtime boys coach at Tuckerman is in his first season as the girls head coach at Salem High School. His Lady Greyhounds stand at 17-6 on the season following a tough 52-47 loss to Arkansas’ overall top-ranked team, the Melbourne Lady Bearkatz in the district tournament finals on Saturday. Monday afternoon, Coach Bateman was in the First National Bank High School Coaches’ Corner on “The Drive with Brad Bobo” to discuss his 2020-21 season to date, and preview regional play which begins this week.
