The national debate on women s equality could prompt overdue reform of Australia s painstakingly slow and prohibitively expensive family law system, according to advocates who have long been calling for change.
Key points:
Most recommendations were backed by all committee members, across the Coalition, Labor, Greens and crossbench
The inquiry came after dozens of reviews into the broken family law system
Among them were demands for greater funding for legal aid services and increased resourcing of family law registrars to clear a backlog of cases.
