Performance of Awkum appreciated June 27, 2021 MARDAN: Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has appreciated the performance of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (Awkum). In a tweet, the chief minister congratulated the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Dr Zahoorul Haq, faculty members and management for achieving a second consecutive position in the national and international rankings. He said that the best administrative skills of AWKUM management has shown how higher education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is on the path of continuous development. Chief Minister’s Special Assistant on Higher Education and Information Kamran Khan Bangash also appreciated the performance of Awkum and said that the university was brought out of the financial crisis by the vice-chancellor.

PESHAWAR: The nine government universities established in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last five years are struggling to meet salary and other expenditure due to the denial of funds by the Higher Education Commission despite repeated requests, say officials in the higher education department and universities. According to them, the regulator for higher education insists that it can’t support those universities due to the considerable slashing of its funding by the federal government. These institutions of higher education include Shuhada-i-Army Public School University of Technology Nowshera, Women University Mardan, University of Buner, University of Chitral, University of Engineering and Technology Mardan, University of Lakki Marwat, Pak-Austria Fachhochschule: Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology Haripur, Agriculture University Dera Ismail Khan and Women University Swabi.

No dearth of talent in Pakistani women: Zartaj Gul

National March 9, 2021 MARDAN: Minister of State for Climate Change Zartaj Gul Wazir on Monday said that there was no dearth of talent among women in Pakistan. Addressing a ceremony in connection with International Women’s Day at Women University Mardan, she said Prime Minister Imran Khan has not rewarded his own relatives in politics and has produced leaders all over Pakistan. Assistant commissioner Saman Abbas, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Ghazala Yasmeen Nizam, DSP Rozina Altaf and others also addressed the function. Faculty members and students were there as well. Zartaj Gul said the values of women were distorted in the tribal areas during the Taliban era; however, no case of rape was reported in the tribal areas, compared to other areas of the country.
