Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has commended the people of Bende Local Government Area for honouring their daughter and former member representing Bende Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. Nnenna Elendu-Ukeje.
The Governor made the remark on Wednesday during a civic reception organised in her honour at the Bende LGA headquarters.
According to him, the reception would serve as a tonic to propel her to do more in uplifting the polity of Bende in particular, Abia and Nigeria in general.
Governor Ikpeazu said hosting the former federal lawmaker showed that the people of Bende were knowledgeable and strategic, and urged them to rally round her.

The Executive Director of IGBERE TV, Emeh James Anyalekwa, has felicitated the Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu on his 50th birthday.
This was contained in a personally signed goodwill message, on Wednesday, made available to newsmen in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital.
In the goodwill message, Anyalekwa, who doubles as the National President, Online Medium Practitioners Association of Nigeria (OMPAN), described Kalu as a patriotic statesman whose contributions to the House of Representatives and Bende Federal Constituency are too notch.
He noted that Hon. Kalu has continued to passionately devote his life to the actualization of his vision for the development of his Constituency through his good works and is determined to see that Bende is ushered into the path of multi sectoral development.
The House acknowledges the severity of the issue and its nature as a matter of public concern.

The House of Representatives has said it will hear the motion of Minority Leader Ndudi Elumelu for the resignation of Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami, when it is brought under Order 8 Rule 4, which is a matter of urgent national importance.
The Spokesperson for the House, Benjamin Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency, in a statement in Abuja, said Elumelu did not earlier bring his motion under the appropriate order.
He added that it was not true that the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, blocked Elumelu’s motion demanding Pantami’s resignation.
Reps to probe UK-based firm’s stake in HealthPlus

The House of Representatives has received a petition alleging that the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria has granted a waiver to a private equity firm, Alta Semper Capital UK, otherwise known as Idi Holdings, to become a part owner of a popular retail pharmacy chain, HealthPlus, in Nigeria.
A lawyer, Oladimeji Ekengba, of the Oladimeji Ekengba & Co (KKLM Chambers), petitioned the House over the alleged illegal issuance of a certificate of ‘No Objection’ to the firm by the PCN.
The lawmaker representing Bende Federal Constituency in Abia State, Benjamin Kalu, had on Tuesday laid the petition, dated February 15, 2021, before the chamber on behalf of the lawyer.

Bende (Abia), Dec. 30, 2020 Rep. Ben Kalu (APC), representing Bende Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, said on Tuesday that the Federal Government has begun the reconstruction of the Umuahia-Bende-Ohafia Road.
Kalu said this while briefing traditional rulers and political stakeholders on his performance at the National Assembly during a town hall meeting/empowerment programme held in Bende, the headquarters of Bende Local Government Area.
He said that contract for the project was awarded by the federal government at a cost of N12 billion and that N2.1 billion would be released annually for the project until it is completed.
