The Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force is one of several agencies in Kentucky that have received a grant from the federal Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant.
According to a news release from the Office of the Governor, the program furthers the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet’s mission of assisting law enforcement’s efforts to prevent or reduce crime and violence. Funds awarded may be used to hire additional personnel or purchase equipment, supplies, training, technical assistance and information systems.
The Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force has been awarded $260,468 to develop leads and gather information to combat the sale, distribution and transportation of illegal drugs and narcotics within the Pennyrile Area Development District.
The resolution was approved unanimously by magistrates, and if the first round of funding is depleted, the county may be able to get another round of $200,000.
Magistrates also approved the appointment of Matthew Baker to the Hopkinsville-Christian County Airport Board. Baker will take over the seat for Tony Jones, who asked to leave the board at the beginning of the month. Kenneth Bates was also re-appointed to the board after a one-year term. Both will serve on the board through December 31, 2024.
The next Christian County Fiscal Court meeting will be Tuesday morning, February 23, at 8:30.
The Pennyrile Area Development District board of directors heard the legislative priorities of the Kentucky Association of Counties (KACo) during their Monday afternoon meeting.
KACo Legislative Director Shellie Hampton said the top priority is getting the gasoline tax raised by ten-cents to help county road funds.
