We’re just more than halfway through December and it’s already been a record month for new coronavirus cases in Todd County.
The Todd County Health Department reported nine new cases Wednesday all adults isolating at home bringing this month’s total to 128.
Todd County now has 85 active cases 83 at home and two in a hospital and 471 of 571 total cases have recovered.
Meanwhile, the Pennyrile District Health Department noted another 12 cases in Trigg County. An 86-year old man and a 76-year old woman are hospitalized and the other nine adults and one juvenile are at home.

Trigg County’s COVID-19 case total increased by 34 Tuesday, one of the largest single-day increases for the county since the pandemic began, and the numbers indicate a possible outbreak in a congregate setting.
The Pennyrile District Health Department provided the age on 31 of the 34 cases reported. All but four were over the age of 60 and 10 were 86 and older. Prior to Tuesday, there had only been two confirmed cases in the 86 and older age group in Trigg County this month. The 17 cases in the 60 to 85 age group were five more than any other day reported this month.
Two of the three personal care homes in Trigg County appear on the state’s COVID-19 reporting website and have a combined one active case between them involving a staff member. The third facility, Better Senior Living in Cadiz, has not reported a single case of COVID-19 to the state since long term care numbers for facilities were released in the spring.
Trigg County’s largest single-day increase in COVID-19 cases can be traced to an outbreak at a long-term care facility.
Officials with Better Senior Living on Shelby Street in Cadiz confirmed an outbreak of the virus at their facility. Administrator Maria Estep said the first case was confirmed on November 30 and likely came from a resident that transferred in from another part of the state.

The Pennyrile District Health Department says Trigg County gained the most new COVID-19 cases in the district over the weekend.
According to health department report posted Monday evening Trigg County added 26 new cases over the weekend and Monday. Of those new cases, six were confirmed on Saturday, with five new cases reported Sunday, and 15 new cases on Monday. The cases range in age from four to 82 years of age, with fifteen females and 11 males testing positive for the virus.
Caldwell County reported sixteen new cases, with Lyon County reporting six, Livingston logging 12, and Crittenden County reporting six.
Sixty-six new cases of COVID-19 were logged over the weekend and Monday in the Pennyrile Health Department District.
