(WTXL) — At the one-year anniversary of the first local COVID-19 death, a group of community leaders will come together to commemorate the lives that have been lost and provide words of hope for the days ahead. Leaders from the faith community, education, law enforcement, health care and local government will gather virtually on Friday, April 16 at noon to share their stories from the pandemic. The public is invited to virtually attend the memorial – and it will be recorded for broad access by residents after the live event.

(WTXL) — 310 crosses are placed on the front lawn of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Tallahassee. Each cross represents a person in Leon County who died from COVID-19. Sunday marked one year since the first COVID-19 related death in the county. The church held a memorial service for those who didn t get the chance to get vaccinated. Linda Edwards has received the vaccine. She credits the Statewide Coronavirus Vaccination Community Education and Engagement Taskforce led by Rev. R.B. Holmes and former city commissioner Elaine Bryant for getting people vaccinated, but adds more lives need to be saved lives.

(WLOX) - The car lot was near full within the first hour of New Bethel Baptist Missionary Church opening its doors. On Saturday, the church jumped on the opportunity to help the community by partnering with Gulfport’s Memorial Hospital to host a vaccine site. The hospital provided the Johnson & Johnson vaccine for the event. Officials said the hospital had more than 300 doses for people and just in case, provided the Pfizer vaccine if they ran out of the J&J vaccine.
