So, it’s another rainy Sunday afternoon. Mother’s Day 2021! Greetings to all the Moms and the wonderful things you do. Join me for a few minutes for this family room chat.
Mother’s Day was first celebrated in 1907 at a church in Grafton, West Virginia, as a service of worship. I certainly have many fond memories of my late Mother (Mom). She grew up as a farm girl during the great Depression and graduated from high school during WWII, seeing brothers go off to military service. Her Dad died when Mom was an infant so Grand-ma raised the entire family on the farm. What a life. Mom raised a bunch of boys and became a big baseball fan. Thanks, Mom, for what you taught us and the many memories. This past Saturday morning, D.J. Holly Z from our local radio station, played song tributes to Mother’s Day. One was narrated in 1976 by Jimmy Dean (yep, the sausage breakfast guy) named I.O.U. Listen to it. What a great tribute to Moms.

So how does it work? The sewer system that is. More on that in just a minute. Wow . another breezy Sunday afternoon. No side porch sittin’ yet, however, it’s just around the corner. So join me in the family room with some Sunday afternoon baseball on the television set. Plenty of baseball at the Jerome R. King Playground this season that’s already begun! Grab your bag chairs and put them in your vehicle. Plenty of bleachers at the baseball/softball complex as well. Get out and enjoy some local sports including high school spring sports.

Friday night, a good friend asked me when the “porch side chats” would begin? Soon, my friends. Tina and I can’t wait to do some side porch sittin ! This Sunday afternoon, the rainfall is continuous with a fortunate 43-degree temperature. so this is a fireside chat from the family room.
Monday is (was) the first day of “meteorological spring” while “astronomical spring” joins us March 20. We change our clocks the morning of March 14. Greencastle’s public works personnel will climb the town clock tower and the many trap doors and narrow steps to change the clock late Saturday night, March 13. What an experience that I enjoyed doing over many years in the past. The view from up there is beautiful.

People across the country have mixed views about whether to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and that s the case in this area, too.
Valerie Meyers, executive director of the Greencastle-Antrim Chamber of Commerce, said she is hearing strong opinions both for and against vaccination. Community members will come in saying that they re anxious to have things back to normal and that the vaccine is the means to make that happen, she said. I spoke to a vendor who s very interested in participating in an event, but who is firm about not doing so while there is any risk of infection.
