Each year since 2014, the Penn State Wind Energy Club has competed in the United States Department of Energy (DOE) Collegiate Wind Competition, taking home more first place wins than any other team. Small Island Big Song highlights climate challenges in free film April 23-30

Small Island Big Song In addition to raising awareness of environmental issues facing island nations, the project explores a migration theory that seeks to establish musical links between cultures and accentuates similarities in regional instruments, voices and rhythm. More than 100 musicians represent waterfront countries facing climate-related challenges, including Madagascar, Borneo, Tahiti, Bali, Guam, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Taiwan. The live touring production of “Small Island Big Song,” including an artist residency, is scheduled for the center’s spring 2022 season. Composting on campus | What Penn State students need to know

To compost or not to compost? That is the question some people ask themselves before throwing out their waste. At Penn State, composting efforts start in the dining halls and end in the facilities of the Organic Materials Processing and Education Center, where the compost then makes it way back onto campus grounds, the Student Farm and into the community. Ryan McCaughey, manager of grounds and equipment who works closely with the composting process, said the solid waste management department collects food waste from the dining halls and waste from office composting bins, which then gets tossed with leaves and switchgrass from the Arboretum to make the body of the compost.
