UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. Each year, 30 first-year students at Penn State s University Park campus will be selected for membership to the Presidential Leadership Academy (PLA).
Founded with a lead gift from Edward R. and Helen S. Hintz in 2009, the PLA was established to develop critical-thinking skills and educate students to understand issues broadly. A diverse pool of members promotes consideration for the complexity and variability of world matters and current events, as well as for varying decisions and life circumstances. PLA values the idea that critical thinking on issues is not black or white, but instead, somewhere in
Bryce Schneider was honored by the Fairfield Lions Club as the Student of the Month for December 2020.
Schneider is the son of Doug and Holly Schneider of Fairfield. During his high school career Schneider has been involved in the following school activities: varsity soccer, 9, 11; track and field, 9-11; Prom Committee, 10-11; and National Honor Society, 10-12.
Schneider has also been involved in the following activities outside of school: Youth Leader at St. James Lutheran, 2016-present; CARES Breakfast (Soup Kitchen), 2016-2019; and REACH Work Camp, 2016-2019.
Schneider is currently dual enrolled at Penn State Mont Alto. His future plans are to attend school for cybersecurity and analytics at Penn State University Park.

A man who expanded his father s local tree care business into a multi-state enterprise was recently named Greater Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce s 2020 Business Person of the Year.
George Pogue Jr. is the owner of Cumberland Valley Tree Service. Local business and civic leaders chose to honor him with the annual award in recognition of his professional leadership and business accomplishments that have positively impacted the community.
“George’s leadership with the Cumberland Valley Tree Service has created a successful business model that supports not only its employees, but our community as well,” Luke Martin, chair of the Greater Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, said in a news release. “George and his family have built a business that is a credit to our region and worthy of emulation to the highest degree.”
