Low-profile thoracic aortic endograft minimizes complications, increases patient pool Preliminary results of a clinical trial, presented today at the AATS 101st Annual Meeting, showed that a new, low-profile thoracic aortic endograft is safe and effective in the treatment of descending thoracic aortic aneurysm or penetrating atherosclerotic ulcer (PAU) diseases. A multi-disciplinary team, led by both cardiac and vascular surgeons as co-investigators, conducted the study in 36 centers in the United States and Japan, enrolling patients between 2016 and 2019. The trial aimed to measure safety and efficacy of the RELAY®Pro endovascular device, a second-generation product featuring a dramatically reduced profile and a non-bare stent (NBS) configuration.

(Shutterstock) PHOENIXVILLE, PA Hospital safety grades from Leapfrog were low for several Tower Health hospitals in Chester County, including Phoenixville Hospital, Brandywine Hospital, and Pottstown Hospital. The three facilities were awarded grades of D by the Leapfrog Group, an organization the performs regular assessments of hospitals. Numerous Pennsylvania hospitals received top safety marks while others didn t quite measure up in The Leapfrog Group s annual spring safety grades. The nonprofit health care watchdog group grades hospitals twice a year, assigning letter grades from A to F based on each hospital s ability to protect patients from preventable errors, accidents, injuries, and infections.

Man Gunned Down as Toddler Sat in Nearby Car in West Philadelphia

Inside the car where the man had been prior to getting shot, police found the 3-year-old son of a family friend, the chief inspector said. The child was unharmed and later reunited with his mother. Police found 14 spent shell casings from a semiautomatic gun at the scene. Small said it appeared the gunman walked up to the victim and fired from close range, adding that he was apparently targeted. Gunfire also hit a nearby home, but no one inside was injured, the chief inspector said. Police could not immediately determine a motive or provide a suspect description, but Small said they were trying to get surveillance video from nearby businesses.
