Honoring our Medical Heroes During National Hospital Week

Until late January, Nicole was DON at Pleasantview in Manheim. For over a year, her dedication, loyalty, love and concern for others guided the staff through the worst of the Covid pandemic. I witnessed her determination to fight for her staff and patients and their families during this extremely difficult time. This past January, Nicole took on further responsibilities by accepting the DON job at Masonic Village. She continues to dedicate her time and energy to solving problems that continue to plague health care facilities. She has sincere love and concern for all those affected by the pandemic and all other issues involved in nursing home care. She continues pursuing her education while working and taking care of her family s needs. She strives to give her very best in all facets of her life. In appreciation for all her hard work and overtime work, I am proud to nominate Nicole Watson for special recognition.

Pop-up clinics help vaccinate hard-to-reach communities in Lancaster County

With the clamor for limited COVID-19 vaccines now relegated to the early days of the vaccination campaign in Pennsylvania, pop-up clinics hope to inoculate hard-to-reach communities. NAACP Lancaster and Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health are among the organizations offering no-appointment necessary, walk-in COVID-19 vaccination clinics. “These clinics are part of LG Health’s ongoing efforts to provide the COVID-19 vaccine to individuals who might be experiencing barriers to accessing the vaccine,” Alice Yoder, LG Health executive director of community health, said in a press release. Yoder is also spearheading a coalition of roughly 30 members from various Lancaster County organizations that aims to ensure hard-to-reach communities.

THE ISSUE The Lancaster County Community Vaccination Center may close earlier than its previously announced closing date, LNP | LancasterOnline’s Carter Walker reported last week, though there doesn’t seem to be any clarity on when exactly it will close. “When plans for the community vaccination center at Park City Center were being finalized in February, Dr. Michael Ripchinski, the chief clinical officer for Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health, said the plan was to run the facility through the end of June,” Walker reported. LG Health spokesman John Lines said the Lancaster County Community Vaccination Center “is expected to continue operations at least through the beginning of June.” No decision, Lines said, had been “made on a closure date prior to June 30.”
