For the Mirror CLEARFIELD A Tyrone man is facing charges for assaulting his cellmate at the Clearfield County Jail. Police say Collin Bradley Gardner, 24, struck the victim in the face, breaking his nose, stomped on him and choked him, causing him to be transported to Penn Highlands Clearfield on Nov. 24. Gardner initially was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, strangulation, disorderly conduct and summary harassment. On Wednesday, he waived his right to a preliminary hearing during centralized court when the aggravated assault charge was dismissed. Gardner is being held in the jail on $25,000 bail in the case. According to the affidavit of probable cause, the victim told investigators that he had been beaten up by his cellmate, Gardner, whom he had just met.

For the Mirror CLEARFIELD A Clearfield couple will stand trial on charges related to assaults on their 6-month-old child. Police said that on Oct. 23, Andre Maurice Sheffey, 33, took the child to Penn Highlands Clearfield for treatment after Sheffey said the boy fell off of a couch. The child was reportedly having seizures, was blue and his limbs were limp. His condition required he be transported by helicopter to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment. It was discovered he was suffering from shaken baby syndrome, leaving him with blood on the brain and his legs had “three separate fractures in different stages of healing,” which indicated ongoing physical abuse, according to the affidavit.

Couple accused of abusing infant waive hearings

A Clearfield couple accused abusing their six-month-old male infant waived their right to their preliminary hearings Monday before Magisterial District Judge Michael Morris at Centralized Court. According to a previous article in The Progress, on Oct. 23, the infant was taken to Penn Highlands Clearfield by his father, Andre Maurice Sheffey, 33, of 975 Park Ave., Ext Apt. 8D (Lawrence Park Village) presenting as critically ill. The child was having seizures, was blue at the time of arrival and was cold to the touch, police said. The father told hospital staff that the infant fell off the couch and struck his head, according to police.
