Health Departments Warn Outbreaks Are Happening Among School-Aged Kids March 12, 2021 It’s linked to gatherings outside of school, like sporting events, parties, and sleepovers. The Health Department of Northwest Michigan says it has seen 277 new cases of the novel coronavirus over the last 14 days; 30% of them were in kids age 13 to 19. And most of those cases showed no symptoms. Benzie/Leelanau District Health Department also said on Thursday they were seeing an uptick of cases in their school districts. And the Grand Traverse Co. Health Department said on Tuesday, “In Grand Traverse County we are seeing clusters that are related to social gatherings. Particularly social gatherings outside of school like sleepovers and other types of parties.” She adds that the clusters “are not related to school-related activities or exposure in the schools. So we want to make that clear.”

9 & 10 News March 11, 2021 The Benzie Leelanau District Health Department says they’ve been receiving calls asking questions about the safest way to travel over spring break. Medical director for the department, Dr Joshua Meyerson says, “We all want to relax and have a great time and I get that. But you still really need to think and be cautious and travel safely. It’s not so much where you go but how you go.” Even though the CDC recommends against traveling, the Benzie Leelanau District Health Department put together a checklist of what those looking to travel should do. Dr. Meyerson says, “It’s really important for those seven to ten days before travel to be extra cautious and reduce your exposure to others outside of your household.”
