Pennsylvania coronavirus update: 7,745 more cases added Monday as health secretary says plateau reached, as least temporarily Ford Turner, The Morning Call The state reported 7,745 more cases of the coronavirus on Monday as Pennsylvania Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine said case numbers may have reached a temporary plateau after weeks of increases. The state also reported 7,355 more cases were added on Sunday, with the two-day addition of newly reported cases bringing the total to 563,589. The state also reported 57 more deaths on Monday, in addition to 99 on Sunday, to bring the total to 13,981. Levine said hospitals and health systems remain challenged by the COVID-19 crisis and that people need to continue to wear masks, stay home, practice social distancing and avoid large gatherings.

Levine reported 7,745 new covid-19 cases statewide Monday and 7,355 Sunday, bringing the state’s total number of infections to 563,589. There were 57 new deaths reported Monday and 99 Sunday, bringing the state’s death total to 13,981 because of the virus. There are 6,090 patients hospitalized with covid-19 in Pennsylvania, according to the state’s covid-19 data dashboard. Of those, 1,217 are receiving intensive care and 738 are on ventilators.

But it appears the state’s COVID surge may be waning. “If everybody does the right thing if everybody stands united and continues those mitigation measures and pretty much stays home during the holidays   then things look much more hopeful for January,” said Levine at a Monday press conference.
