21 Pa. counties have substantial spread of COVID-19; positive test rate holds steady at 5.7% Updated Mar 17, 2021; Facebook Share Fewer counties are seeing substantial spread of COVID-19, Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration said Wednesday. Across Pennsylvania, 21 of the state’s 67 counties are seeing high transmission of the coronavirus. For the first time in months, less than a third of the state’s counties are seeing substantial spread, the Wolf administration said. The state’s positive test rate for COVID-19 held steady at 5.7% for the week of March 5-11, matching the percentage of the previous week. This is the first time the rate of positive tests hasn’t dropped in about three months. The positive test rate had plunged for 12 consecutive weeks after reaching a high of 16.2% in December. Health officials have said a positive test rate higher than 5% is a source of concern.
