After mid-race traffic trouble left Jacks Shadow N an insurmountable task last week, driver Tim Tetrick opted to send the seven-year-old Shadow Play gelding immediately to the lead at race s outset, clearing Whos Better and Dexter Dunn through a :26.3 quarter. After rating a soft :29.3 second sectional, Jacks Shadow N was forced to accelerate up the backstretch when faced with mild first-over pressure from Dealers Table. Jacks Shadow easily turned aside his outside rival past three-quarters in 1:23.3, and kept Whos Better three-quarters of a length at bay at the winning post. Precision Bluechip finished third, another four lengths behind.

Pocono Readying For 56th Season | Standardbred Canada

The activity at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono is growing every day in anticipation of the track’s 56th year of harness racing, a season which begins on Saturday, Feb. 6. Horses are already training over the track during set hours every day. Pocono would like horsemen to know that because of the winter weather peaking right around the corner, there will be NO training over the Pocono surface on Tuesday, January 26. The first qualifiers for the 2021 season at the mountain oval will be held on Monday, Feb. 1 and Tuesday, Feb. 2, with both sessions starting at 10 a.m. (EST). Horsemen should declare entries for the Monday qualifiers by Saturday at 11 a.m., and for the Tuesday qualifiers by Monday at 11 a.m.

The Northeast Pennsylvania oval will begin a 137-day meet on Saturday (Feb. 6), concluding on Saturday (Oct. 30). The Pennsylvania All-Stars, an early closer for PA sired three-year-olds, will make its first appearance of the season in May and June. The two-year-old All-Stars will be held in July. Nominations for the three-year-old PA All-Stars events are due on Tuesday, Feb. 16. The two-year-old event nominations will not be due until Monday, March 15.

In February The Game Of Claims will have four segments which will feature three weeks of preliminary action for pacing horses entered at a base price of $7500, $10,000, $15,000, and $25,000, with prelim purses equal to the first-round base price, and the claiming price going up to a degree in each subsequent prelim. The top pointwinners in the three preliminary legs will go for a final (out of which there will be no claiming) of double their base claiming price, with those races to be held on Saturday, March 6 and Sunday, March 7. On Mondays in March, $15,000 claiming trotters will race in a series of the same format.
