Westmoreland County posts 410 covid-19 cases; 8 more deaths

The Pennsylvania Department of Health on Saturday reported 410 new cases of the coronavirus in Westmoreland County. It was the fourth consecutive day the county reported fewer than 500 cases. On Friday, 248 cases were reported, marking the first time there were less than 250 cases since Dec. 7. Eight deaths were reported Saturday, increasing the death toll to 345. That’s 56 more than there were the preceding week. The 56 deaths also represent a weekly high for the county. Two weeks ago, 50 deaths were recorded; three weeks ago, a then-record 52 deaths were reported; and 30 were reported four weeks ago. That makes a four-week total of 188 covid-19-related deaths amounting to more than half (54%) of the total deaths in the county from the virus.

Pennsylvania reports 224 new coronavirus deaths, adds 9,966 cases

Pennsylvania’s Department of Health on Thursday reported 224 new deaths attributed to the coronavirus. The death toll for the state stands at 13,392. There have been 1,967 deaths already this month. Of the 224 deaths newly reported, 220 are from December, three are from November and one is from July. The state also reported 9,966 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of cases to 529,335. The state has been averaging more than 10,000 cases a day for the past week. The state’s seven-day total cases is 72,046. Allegheny County recorded 850 new cases, while Westmoreland saw 397 new cases for the day. The state noted that more than 3.1 million people in the state have tested negative for the virus.

State reports 222 new cases of COVID-19 in Erie County

Erie County s nursing homes, many of which have suffered massive COVID-19 outbreaks over the past five weeks, expect to start receiving vaccine by early January. Officials with Pleasant Ridge Manor in Fairview Township and Saint Mary s Home of Erie both said they don t know exactly when the COVID-19 vaccine will arrive or how much they will receive. There s no specific date, said Bob Smith, Pleasant Ridge s executive director. The earliest would be the end of December but probably more like the first week of January. Long-term care facilities like Pleasant Ridge and Saint Mary s are partnering with chain pharmacies through a federal government program to have their residents and employees vaccinated.
