PFBC ANNOUNCES CHANGES TO 2021 TROUT SEASON AND STOCKING OPERATIONS DURING QUARTERLY MEETING

HARRISBURG, Pa. (January 25) – During its quarterly business meeting held virtually on January 25, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) announced several changes to the upcoming 2021 trout season, including opening day dates and stocking operations.
These changes, effective immediately, include consolidating the 2021 season into a single, statewide schedule for all Pennsylvania counties; beginning trout stocking operations earlier than usual; reinstating limited volunteer opportunities for trout stocking operations; and releasing a schedule of trout stocking dates and locations. All changes were made by the PFBC in consultation with the Office of the Governor, Pennsylvania Department of Health, and Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to address ongoing public health concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic while preserving the opportun

DOYLESTOWN, PA Martin Luther King Jr. Day has been designated by groups and organizations nationwide as a day on since the third Monday of January was designated a national holiday in memory of the late civil rights icon. Even during the coronavirus pandemic, there are ways to make a positive difference in Doylestown on the Jan. 18 holiday this year.
Organized service projects have taken the place of the traditional work or school holiday in recent years. But in 2021, restrictions in place to slow the further spread of the coronavirus are impacting the ability to perform some good deeds.
Snow and ice reports available for state parks across Pennsylvania

Blue Knob State Park at Imler on January 12 reported 3 inches of snow – patchy in most lower elevations and 3 inches at place on top of the mountain – with no winter activities yet available due to conditions.
Little Buffalo State Park at Newport on January 13 reported no snow, less than an inch of ice “covering about 80 percent of the lake” and no winter activities available due to conditions.
Raymond B. Winter State Park at Mifflinburg on January 11 reported 4 inches of snow providing a base for cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and sledding, and 5 inches of ice on the lake, enough ice for ice fishing and ice skating.
D&H Trail named 2021 Trail of the Year

SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY, Pa. Each year, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) chooses one specific trail out of more than 12,000 miles of trails to be designated Trail of the Year. For the first time, a trail in northeastern Pennsylvania will receive that designation.
Lynn Conrad is the executive director of Rails to Trails of Northeast PA and was ecstatic to hear the D&H Trail was chosen as the best for 2021.
Coronavirus-hindered Pennsylvania Outdoor Corps pushed ahead in 2020

Despite restrictions imposed in response to the coronavirus pandemic, the Pennsylvania Outdoor Corps managed to pull off another successful year in 2020, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
Created in 2016, the corps offers work experience, job training and environmental educational opportunities to young people ages 15-25, who complete recreation and conservation projects on Pennsylvania’s public lands. In addition to hands-on job skills, the program provides learning opportunities weekly in resource management, environmental issues and topics, and recreation skills. Members also will be provided with workforce development training and materials.
