A storm warning goes into effect for central Pennsylvania starting at 3 a.m. on Sunday and ending at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service at State College.
Heavy snow is expected and accumulation is anticipated to be eight to 12 inches, meteorologists said. Travel could be very difficult to impossible.
Morning and evening commutes could be impacted.
The warning said that snow will “overspread the area from west to east Sunday morning, reaching far eastern areas early Sunday afternoon.”
“The snow will continue through Monday into early Tuesday morning,” according to the service. “The snow could be especially heavy across the southeastern portion of central Pennsylvania on Monday.”

Snow and ice projected in the midstate Tuesday morning and afternoon could create the most danger for commuters, forecasters said.
As of 5:30 a.m., the National Weather Service is calling for less than an inch of snow and one-tenth of an inch of ice before 1 p.m. Tuesday.
A winter weather advisory has been issued for parts of central Pennsylvania, warning drivers of slippery, icy roads Tuesday morning.
Snow, freezing rain and sleet are expected before 2 p.m., followed by a chance of rain in the late afternoon and more snow after 3 p.m., forecasters said. Snow and rain will gradually let up and clear before Wednesday morning.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. December 30 to 4 a.m. December 31 for Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Tompkins and Delaware Counties in New York and Susquehanna and Northern Wayne Counties in Pennsylvania.
Forecasters say a good chance of snow, sleet and freezing rain in the afternoon and overnight with winds gusting up to 30 miles an hour could make for difficult driving and walking conditions.
The Weather Service says total snow accumulations could reach up to an inch along with a glaze of ice. Two to three inches of snow are possible over Oneida County.
