Ringing in 2021 will be different this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Historically, the New Year has been celebrated on Jan. 1 since 45 B.C. as the Julian calendar took effect, according to the History Channel. Many are expected to stay home as Pennsylvania remains in a “precarious place” with the coronavirus and Gov. Tom Wolf last month began advising residents to stay home whenever possible during the holidays.
COVID-19 Cases Continue To Increase In Pennsylvania
(Harrisburg, PA) Positive COVID-19 cases are continuing to increase in Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Department of Health announced more than 35-hundred new cases yesterday. This brings the state s current total of active cases to nearly 615-thousand. Almost six-thousand people are hospitalized statewide due to the coronavirus, which is double what the state had in spring. U.S. Attorney David Freed Announces Resignation
(Harrisburg, PA) U.S. Attorney David Freed is going to resign on New Year s Day. Freed announced his resignation yesterday after he has served about three years as the chief federal law enforcement officer for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bruce Brandler is going to take over the position after Freed s leave. Brandler has been a member of the office for over 30 years and served as U.S. Attorney from 2016 to 2017.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. December 30 to 4 a.m. December 31 for Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Tompkins and Delaware Counties in New York and Susquehanna and Northern Wayne Counties in Pennsylvania.
Forecasters say a good chance of snow, sleet and freezing rain in the afternoon and overnight with winds gusting up to 30 miles an hour could make for difficult driving and walking conditions.
The Weather Service says total snow accumulations could reach up to an inch along with a glaze of ice. Two to three inches of snow are possible over Oneida County.
