Roger Williams called the rioters who stormed the nation’s Capitol building Wednesday, Jan. 6, “domestic terrorists who should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”  The Republican lawmaker, who represents Burnet County, was in a joint session of Congress when a mob stormed past barricades to enter the building. The goal was to block a ceremonial certification of electoral votes in favor of President-elect Joe Biden. The Democratic candidate defeated the incumbent president in an election that had already been certified and declared fair and correct by a long list of officials from both parties.

The crowd breached police lines and smashed its way into the building, including offices of lawmakers. One woman was shot and killed by Capitol Police. Members of Congress abruptly suspended their work and eventually they were hustled out of the House and Senate chambers by security.

Dan Kildee tonight issued a strong condemnation of his Republican colleagues whose rhetoric helped foment the attack the US Capitol on Wednesday, saying their names should be remembered forever.  This was whipped up by politicians. the President of the United States himself and some of my colleagues who know better, said Kildee, speaking on CNN this morning. Those members of Congress who supported this specious attack on the Electoral College vote will have their names permanently written in ink and everyone should know those names, said Kildee.
