Even though he first learned about it by surprise in a carefully crafted ceremony, Liberty High School Principal Harrison Bailey’s award for Pennsylvania’s secondary principal of the year is no fluke. The Bethlehem Area School District community organized the ceremony to honor Bailey on Thursday afternoon. The Pennsylvania Principals Association gives out the award annually. It’s as deserving of an award as they come. Bailey helped launch the Project Lead the Way curriculum, allowing students to explore engineering and biomedical sciences before college. He also integrated restorative justice practices into the school culture and undertook other initiatives that have given Liberty students the best chance possible to learn and succeed. We congratulate him.

Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School Principal Maureen Letcher has been elected president of the Pennsylvania Principals Association.
The election, which ran for two weeks, was completed April 12, resulting in Letcher’s win.
Another local winner in this year’s election was Tyrone Area Elementary School Principal Kristin Musselman, who secured the spot of Central 3 Elementary regional representative.
Hollidaysburg Superintendent Robert Gildea said Letcher is a great fit for the role of president for the organization.
“It is no surprise that Dr. Letcher was chosen by her peers for this leadership position,” he said. “She has played a critical leadership role with the county principals group since becoming the high school principal eight years ago. The state principals will benefit from her vision and advocacy for education and innate ability to lead effectively.”

Liberty High School Principal Harrison Bailey had no idea what awaited him inside of his school’s gym Thursday afternoon.
When he walked through the doors, the Grenadier band broke out into song, the majorettes were dancing and his wife, three kids, mother and in-laws sat in a socially-distanced group in the gym.
The Bethlehem Area School District community gathered with Bailey’s loved ones at Liberty to surprise the school’s leader with the news that he’s the Pennsylvania Principals Association secondary principal of the year. Bailey took in the news as his colleagues, a student and local dignitaries shared all that he means to the Hurricane family.

CYBERBULLYING FALLOUT-When 14-year-old Brandi Levy didn t make the varsity cut as a freshman cheerleader for the Mahanoy Golden Bears, she sounded off on social media, as teenagers are known to do. I was frustrated. I was upset. I was angry. And I made a post on Snapchat, Levy told ABC News Live. I said, F school, F cheer, F softball, F everything.
When she posted the vulgar message to her friends on a weekend in 2017, she never thought she d hear about it again. But days later, the school accused her of breaching a code of conduct and suspended her from cheerleading for an entire year.
