  WINNIPEG Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders is taking the internet by storm and Winnipeg is no exception. Seen at this week’s historic U.S. presidential inauguration wearing a poofy jacket and knitted mittens, striking a comically disgruntled pose, Senator Sanders has become a wintery meme sensation. “Everybody just needed something to be happy,” said David Robin, who created several images of Sanders at iconic Winnipeg spots.  Robin, who works in marketing, has achieved internet fame for memes in the past, like when he recreated the poster for the film “The Hangover” to feature players from the Winnipeg Jets. Schools look ahead to end of mandatory remote learning period

  Some school divisions in Manitoba are now looking ahead to the end of a post-holiday period of mandatory remote learning for older students. In December, Manitoba Education announced students in grades 7-12 would learn exclusively from home for the first two weeks of the new year.  That period ends on Friday, Jan 15.  CTV News has obtained a letter to parents from the Division Scolaire Franco-Manitobane advising their schools will return to a level orange status starting Monday, Jan. 18.  The letter stated that students will be in class while maintaining a separation of six feet. This includes students in grades 7 to 12.

They included the local victims of the Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752 which crashed after being struck by a missile in early January and the more than 600 Manitobans who have died from COVID-19. They included the co-founder and former publisher of the Winnipeg Sun, a one-time Winnipeg Jets superstar and Hockey Hall of Fame member, and a mother whose tireless efforts overturned the wrongful conviction of her son. They were individuals who left a lasting impression through their dedication to good work.
