Tenby s former Conservative Club could be turned into a house

Tenby s Hazelwell Club A former Conservative Club in Tenby could be turned into a four-storey house if planning permission is granted. An application has been made to Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority to convert Hazelwell Club, once the town’s Conservative Club, on St Florence Parade into a single residential dwelling over four floors. The application states that a change of use is required for the ground and first floor from its previous use as a Conservative Club and “incorporation of existing second and third floor residential unit into single dwelling.” Both the former members’ club area and upper floors, a three bedroom flat, are currently vacant.

One Planet Development smallholding approved near Freshwater East

A self-sustaining home and small holding will be built near Freshwater East under the One Planet Development scheme. A single dwelling, reconstruction and extension of an existing barn, alterations to another existing building as well as a temporary shepherd hut has been approved by National Park planners on land off Jason Road. One Planet Development’s allow people to live off the land in the open countryside in a self sufficient and eco-friendly way. The site, known as Holly Lake, is on the road between Jameston to Hodgeston and is around five acres in size. Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority’s development management committee discussed the plan at its meeting on April 21.

Bluestone s £15m boost with 80-lodge go-ahead

The resort already has 344 lodges, studios and cottages on its 500-acre site, where its 80 new environmentally sensitive, self-catered lodges will be located. The development will create and support over 250 jobs in the construction phase as well as nearly 90 operational jobs on site following the completion of the works. The new lodges will increase spending by Bluestone in the surrounding area by up to £1.5m per year, with visitors contributing up to a further £1m.  Liz Weedon, Bluestone’s head of projects, said: “We are really pleased to have the resolutions approved and we are very excited about the lodge development – which cements Bluestone’s firm commitment to further investment, job creation and supporting the wider regional economy.

Manorbier holiday resort affordable housing appeal lodged

The affordable housing units at Buttyland Caravan and Camping Park An appeal against a decision to refuse affordable housing to be built at a south Pembrokeshire holiday resort has been lodged with the Planning Inspectorate. In the latest update to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority’s development management committee members also heard that two refusal decisions had been upheld or partially upheld, and the appeals dismissed, while a third refusal was overturned and the appeal upheld. A report to the committee on April 21 states that the initial paperwork in relation to appeal against the refusal of outline planning for 14 affordable housing units at Buttyland Caravan and Camping Park, Manorbier had been sent.

THE green light has been given to Bluestone National Park Resort to make its planned £15m investment in 80 new lodges. Hailed as a boost for the Pembrokeshire and South Wales economy, the go-ahead follows positive planning decisions from the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and Pembrokeshire County Council’s planning committees. It comes as a welcome move forward after a year where the company saw a £17.5m drop in its hospitality sales because of the coronavirus pandemic.
