Athletes will be banned from protesting on podiums and the field of play at the Tokyo Olympics and Beijing Winter Games after recommendations from the athletes commission, the IOC said on Thursday.
More than two-thirds of 3,547 athletes polled said it is not appropriate to demonstrate or express their views on the victory podium, field of play or at official ceremonies, the International Olympic Committee said.

Japan backpedals on cooperation with China in Beijing Olympics Today 06:00 am JST Today | 06:32 am JST TOKYO
Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi backpedaled on a previous pledge to cooperate in making the Beijing Winter Olympics a success during a telephone call with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi earlier this month, government sources said Thursday.
The change in stance comes as the United States and other countries have stepped up criticism of China s alleged human rights abuses of the Uyghur Muslim minority in its far-western Xinjiang region.
During a call with Motegi on April 5, Wang requested that China and Japan mutually support each other in the hosting of the Summer Games in Tokyo this year and the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics in Beijing, according to the sources.

After a lost year, the Olympic flame is slowly winding its way across Japan, one runner at a time. Some 10,000 hands will pass the torch from its starting point in disaster-plagued Fukushima, through Japan’s 47 prefectures, to light the cauldron at Tokyo Olympic Stadium.
The “hope lights our way” relay was choreographed to symbolize recovery, but it looks more and more like baffling obstinacy.

Forging ahead with the Tokyo Games amid a global pandemic feels grossly out of step with rapidly filling ICUs, the alarming spread of variants, and impassioned pleas to avoid non-essential travel.
Green Cuisine packs will sport a new union flag look and will carry the Team GB logo
Birds Eye has teamed up with the British Olympic Association ahead of this summer’s delayed Tokyo Olympics.
The frozen giant’s Green Cuisine brand will become the official plant-based supporter of Team GB, in a move that will see packs sport a new union flag look from the start of July ahead of the Games, which begin on 23 July.
Alongside the packaging redesign, the Nomad Foods-owned brand is set to publicise the tie-in with the addition of a tag to the end of TV adverts it is currently running as part of a wider campaign. The partnership will also see it run in-store activations, on-pack promotions and social media activity with Team GB athletes.
