Chinese cities lay plans for digital economy, experts urge careful planning

In the first week of 2021, several cities in China including Shenzhen and Suzhou released roadmaps for the development of the digital economy and industrial digitalization, aiming to promote engagement between technologies with high-quality economic development.
Experts said that due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the digital economy and industrial digitalization has experienced fast growth in China, and it could have accounted for over 40 percent of China total GDP in 2020.

As small COVID-19 flare-ups in China s capital city of Beijing and Northeastern port city of Dalian alerted the public about a new wave of outbreaks with the government ramping up strict measures restricting outings and large gatherings, concerns have emerged over a resurgence of the infections in the country as holiday season is approaching.
The recent sporadic infections won t drag the country into the same situation as at the beginning of the year, top epidemiologists said, noting the nation s timely reporting and containment mechanism could effectively rein in the current outbreaks.
At a meeting on Friday, the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau called for overall reform and opening-up, enhancement of national strategic technologies, an increase in the self-reliance capability of industrial chains and the formation of a powerful domestic market.
