PIA to bring back its plane from Malaysia soon: minister - Pakistan

APP/File TAXILA: Federal Minis­ter for Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan has said that the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and the Peregrine Aviation Charlie Limited leasing firm have agreed on an out-of-court settlement for the PIA plane seized at the Kuala Lumpur Airport on a Malaysian court’s orders. Talking to journalists in Wah on Sunday, the minister said that the next hearing of the case would be held in a London Court on Jan 22 and hopefully the issue would be resolved. Malaysian authorities seized a PIA Boeing-777 at the Kuala Lumpur Airport on the orders of the Malaysian court after PIA failed to pay the leasing fee of about $14 million.

Yet another controversy has surrounded the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), and this time it is the company's monetary situation. An aircraft of the PIA was seized at the Kuala Lumpur airport, while 170 passengers were on board. Malaysian authorities seized a Boeing-777 of the PIA at the Kuala Lumpur airport following court orders against the company as the PIA had been proven guilty for non-payment of aircraft lease dues. As per reports, the company owed money to the AerCap, a Dublin-based company.

A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) passenger plane was seized in Malaysia in mid-January due to a legal dispute involving the airline and a UK leasing company. The plane was held back in connection with a case brought by leasing company Peregrine Aviation Charlie Limited against PIA six months ago in a UK court for not paying a leasing fee of US$14 million, according to the Kuala Lumpur High Court. Under an interim court order, PIA was thus temporarily banned from flying two Boeing 777-200ER planes in its fleet until the next hearing on the issue later in January.
