1966– Janis Joplin performs with Big Brother & the Holding Company for the first time.
1967– California’s Magic Mountain Music Festival, featuring Jefferson Airplane, The Doors and The Byrds is considered the first rock music festival. The festival drew a crowd of 15,000.
1971– During Jethro Tull’s concert at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, police fired canisters of tear gas into the audience which resulted in 28 people being hospitalized. The band played on despite some of them having trouble seeing their instruments. The venue wouldn’t host another rock concert for 5 years.
2007– The HBO show “The Sopranos” airs for the last time. “

Tony’s talent on the bass was eclipsed only by his heart, wry wit, soulfulness and generosity of spirit, which deeply touched everyone who was lucky enough to have him as a part of their lives. In addition to being a mainstay on the Burlington music scene for more than 45 years, Tony was omnipresent and equally beloved in his adopted hometown of Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The greatest white female rock singer of the 1960s, Janis Joplin was also a great blues singer, making her material her own with her wailing, raspy, supercharged emotional delivery. First rising to stardom as the frontwoman for San Francisco psychedelic band Big Brother & the Holding Company, she left the group in the late 60s for a brief and uneven (though commercially successful) career as a solo artist.
