What to watch for as Rutgers wrestling opens Big Ten Championships, including Dylan Shawver’s lineup debut

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. Dylan Shawver is jumping right into the fire, but Rutgers believes he is ready.
The freshman 125-pounder will make his debut in the Scarlet Knights’ lineup at the Big Ten Championships on Saturday. Shawver, a three-time Ohio state medalist, wrestled only two extra bouts earlier this year but knocked off the struggling Nicolas Aguilar in a wrestle-off to earn the postseason spot.
Shawver is scheduled to wrestle Minnesota’s Patrick McKee, a returning national qualifier, in the first round.

Rutgers’ freshman 184-pounder avenged his only loss of the season, pinning Minnesota’s Owen Webster after a reversal to advance to the semifinal round of the Big Ten Championships on Saturday at the Bryce Jordan Center. Poznanski also clinched an automatic qualifier spot for the NCAA Championships on March 18-20 in St. Louis.
The Scarlet Knights will have two semifinalists Poznanski and star 141-pounder Sebastian Rivera after going 2-2 as a team in the quarterfinal round. Seven of their nine wrestlers remain alive in the tournament after the first session. Rutgers is tied for ninth in the team score race with 23.5 points.
