Scottie Seymour Named Big Ten Medal of Honor Finalist

Share Ohio State baseball student-athlete Scottie Seymour has been named one of five male finalists for the Big Ten Medal of Honor. The award is given each year to the top female and male senior student-athlete on each Big Ten campus. Seymour, a Maumee, Ohio, native has appeared in 38 games as a Buckeye and has played all over the field. As a utility player, he has seen action at first-base, second-base, third-base, catcher, outfield and designated hitter. This season, he has played in 11 games with six starts. He had a triple in his first start this season at Michigan and then followed it with a career-high three-hit game which included a double and triple two days later.

Luke Meidel a Big Ten Medal of Honor Finalist

Share Luke Meidel of the Ohio State men’s volleyball team has been named a finalist for the Big Ten Medal of Honor. The award is given each year to the top female and male senior student-athlete on each Big Ten campus. Meidel, from O’Fallon, Ill., was part of the Buckeye squad that reached the NCAA semifinals and won the MIVA Tournament in 2018. He played in more than 40 games in the Scarlet and Gray and was ranked in the Top 20 nationally in digs per set in 2020. He received bachelor’s degrees in neuroscience and African American and African Studies this spring. He was part of OSU Peer Educators and worked as a peer mentor in the Honors College. Meidel earned Ohio State Scholar-Athlete, Academic All-Big Ten and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors, as well as MIVA Academic All-Conference accolades.

Seniors Evan Hymanson (Men’s Gymnastics) won the most coveted awards at the 31st annual event, as they were selected as the 2021 Female and Male Student-Athletes of the Year, respectively, by a vote of the faculty members of the Intercollegiate Athletics Committee.
