BOZEMAN- Although Southwest Montana has seen a lack of snowfall, Big Sky Resort and Bridger Bowl ski areas will both be open by the end of this week.
Big Sky Resort said they now have opened up more than 800 acres for skiing and riding since their opening on Nov. 26, 2020, with the extra few inches of snow they got over the weekend.
Bridger Bowl will open at a very limited capacity on Thursday Dec. 17 due to low snowpack.
Opening skiable acreage for Bridger Bowl will be limited to 5% or around 100 acres with all beginner area lifts running including Sunnyside, Virginia City and Bridger to Midway being open.

As is tradition, Big Sky Resort opened on Thanksgiving Day 2020. Big Sky has 4,350 feet of vertical via 24 chair lifts and 12 surface lifts. Big Sky Resort s elevation at the top of Lone Peak is11,166 feet and gets an average annual snowfall of more than 400 inches.

BOZEMAN- With ski areas deciding to limit the number of people up on the mountains, officials are worried that anxious and inexperienced skiers will take to the backcountry.
At Bridger Bowl, crews are currently up on the mountain with snowcats, snow guns, snowplows, and snowmobiles preparing the mountain range for opening day that backcountry skiers will have to watch out for.
âWhen we close down, then itâs open to the public to go up⦠the safety measures are that we are no longer performing any kind of avalanche mitigation,â Erin OâConnor, the marketing and communication director of Bridger Bowl explained.
