CARLSBAD
The Carlsbad City Council will meet at 3 p.m. Tuesday for final approval of its hotel employee recall rights ordinance. Reports will be presented on the city’s 2019-20 annual financial audit results and on upcoming municipal service reviews by the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) of the city of Carlsbad and Carlsbad Municipal Water District.

The Carlsbad City Council met Tuesday to approve its election results and swear in new Councilmember Teresa Acosta and re-elected member Keith Blackburn. The council heard reports on actions and expenses related to the COVID-19 pandemic. An urgency ordinance regarding hotel employee recall rights was approved 4-1. The ordinance takes place immediately and requires hotels with 200 or more guest rooms to bring back workers who were furloughed or laid off because of the COVID-19 pandemic, rather than hiring replacements for lower wages.

The Del Mar City Council met in closed session Monday to discuss litigation. In regular session, the council affirmed the results of the 2020 general municipal election and swore in re-elected Councilmember Dave Druker and newly elected members Tracy Martinez and Dan Quirk. Outgoing Councilmember Sherryl Parks and outgoing Mayor Ellie Haviland delivered final remarks. The council appointed Councilmember Terry Gaasterlan
The Oceanside Unified School District voted Thursday to return students to an all-online learning format to prevent any coronavirus outbreaks, as cases surge throughout the state.

Three Pacific Ridge students reached the finals at the recent Titan Fast Pitch Finals at California State University Fullerton. Student entrepreneurs in middle school, high school and university/community colleges were selected to pitch their creative concepts over Zoom and answer questions from judges. Three students from Susan Woods’ Financial Literacy class reached the finals, with junior Nicholas Rabjohn taking first place for his pitch of Team Forum. This intuitive app for youth and high school athletes would help players and coaches communicate, allow players to analyze game film and give athletes the opportunity to train efficiently in their off seasons. Senior Jenna Ferayorni finished fourth with her pitch for The Garden Doggy, an automatic vacuum for indoors or outside that would clean up any pet messes. Senior Nicholas Mejia took fifth for his pitch for StudentSource, a program to provide students with everything they need to succeed: a
