As Massachusetts opens COVID vaccine eligibility, Gov. Charlie Baker urges seniors to get shot if they haven’t yet
Updated Apr 07, 2021;
More than three-quarters of Massachusetts’ seniors have already rolled up their sleeves for a COVID-19 vaccine, but Gov. Charlie Baker on Wednesday reminded older unvaccinated residents that they remain vulnerable.
“If you are over the age of 65 or 55, I think it’d be great if you sign up, pre-register to get an appointment now that it’s your turn,” Baker said in a news conference Wednesday after touring the vaccination site at Oceanside Events Center in Revere. “Because you are, based on all the data associated with vulnerable populations . you are most at-risk. We’re thrilled we’re over 80% with that population, but that still means there’s a bunch of folks who are quite elderly who haven’t signed up yet.”
Residents who pre-registered for a vaccine appointment through the state will have access to appointments through the Amherst-Northampton and Marshfield regional collaboratives beginning this week, Gov. Charlie Baker said Wednesday from Revere where he was touring a vaccination clinic.
The addition of the regional collaboratives to the preregistration system increases the number of appointments available to eligible residents who have been waiting for their turn to come around at one of the seven mass vaccination sites.
Baker said more than 1.5 million people have pre-registered for a shot, and over 800,000 have been contacted with a chance to book an appointment. Prior to this change, however, residents were restricted to booking an appointment at the mass vaccination clinic closest to their home.
