According to the American Cancer Society s estimated cancer statistics for 2021, there will be approximately 149,500 new colorectal cancer diagnoses this year alone. And about 52,980 Americans will die of the disease in 2021, making it the second-deadliest form of cancer behind respiratory cancers.

(KEYC) March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and the Mayo Clinic Health System is honing in on prevention. Aside from skin cancers, colorectal cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer in the U.S., affecting one in 20 people. This year, an estimated 50,000 people will die from the disease. The Mayo Clinic Health System says patients haven’t been coming in for their regular screenings since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Without those regular screenings, patients catch the cancer when it has already progressed to a later stage.
