At least three Murfreesboro men were arrested as a result of a federal investigation into that crime spree.  A federal grand jury last week handed down a 13-count indictment charging three Murfreesboro, Tennessee, men with a variety of serious offenses, stemming from a July 2020 series of violent crimes, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Mary Jane Stewart for the Middle District of Tennessee.

View Comments LOUISVILLE, Ky.   A man dubbed Mr. Smooth was arrested last week in Nashville, Tennessee, and will face charges in connection with a string of Louisville bank robberies, police said Tuesday. Salvador Abdul Jones, 35, was taken into custody in the Music City without incident on May 7, with Louisville Metro Police, Metropolitan Nashville Police and FBI Louisville among the agencies that collaborated on the case. Jones allegedly robbed six banks between April 2 and May 5, and LMPD Lt. Mindy Vance said four of the robberies took place in the Louisville area. LMPD spokeswoman Beth Ruoff said Jones has ties to Nashville but that it is unknown if he had a permanent home address.

A possible shoplifting incident took a heartwarming turn when a cop paid for some stolen socks that a homeless man couldn t afford. A Nashville, Tenn., police officer was shot Tuesday evening in an ambush-style attack while responding to a home where a gunman had lured officers before opening fire and eventually killing himself, police said.  Officer Brian Sherman was shot in the upper left arm as he and other officers responded to a setup call amid reports of a woman shot inside a home in the 7000 block of Sugarloaf Drive just after 6:10 p.m. A man called 911 saying his brother shot his mother and was firing inside, police spokesman Don Aaron said.
