If you’re a motorist and you’ve been noticing fewer traffic enforcers from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on roads, then your eyes aren’t deceiving you.
MMDA Assistant General Manager for Finance and Administration Romando Artes confirmed in a DZBB radio interview Sunday, April 18 that there are times during the day when the number of agency enforcers “substantially” drops.
The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has everything to do with it, apparently.
“Actually nagbaba nga po tayo ng bilang [ng enforcer]…minsan nagku-quarantine po kasi, kaya po nababawasan. Hindi lang dahil tinamaan ng sakit (Actually we did reduce the number of enforcers…the number is reduced because of some of them undergo quarantine. So it’s not only because they’re getting sick), Artes said.

The DSWD made clarification after Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Benhur Abalos on Friday night, April 16, called out the agency for supposedly trying to “turn the tables” on the Metro mayors and blame them for complaints regarding the purported “faulty” aid list.
“Nais naming ipabatid na ang pangalan lamang ng head of the family ang nakalagay sa listahan na ibinahagi ng DSWD sa mga local government units (LGUs) (We would like to inform that only the name of the head of the family is included in the list provided by the DSWD to the local government units),” it said in a

Abalos said the strong coordination should focus especially in Metro Manila which is considered as the ground zero of the pandemic and where COVID-19 cases are consistently high.
“I am very thankful for the coordinated and unified efforts of our national government, through the IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases) and the local government units (LGUs) down to barangay level, to help prevent the spread of the virus across the region,” Abalos said on Saturday, April 17.
Citing the latest data released by OCTA Research, Abalos said nine cities in NCR have recorded a negative growth rate over the past week namely Manila, -8%; Makati, -1%; Taguig, -13%; Mandaluyong, -6%; Valenzuela, -3%; Pasay, -12%; Marikina, -15%; Muntinlupa, -17%; and; Navotas, -13%.
