In a text message, retired Lt. General Emmanual Salamat confirmed to Manila Bulletin that he is no longer the MWSS administrator and that former Police Deputy Director General Reynaldo Velasco has regained the position. Velasco now serves as concurrent MWSS chairman and OIC administrator.
The agency went through a management shake-up in 2019 after the Ayala-led and MWSS concessionaire Manila Water Company Inc. caught itself in a supply mess that resulted in millions of its customers having low to no water supply for several weeks.
This prompted President Rodrigo Duterte to ask MWSS to release water for Angat Dam that is good for 150 days to address the issue, to which Velasco responded that the President may have been misinformed about the situation.

The water rates of Manila Water Company Inc. will slightly increase in the second quarter of the year, while customers of Maynilad Water Services Inc. will enjoy a small rollback in rates.
In a virtual briefing on Thursday, Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) Chief Regulator Patrick Ty said such adjustments are based on the two companies’ suggested and approved Foreign Currency Differential Adjustment (FCDA) for April to June period.
FCDA is a quarterly-reviewed tariff mechanism that allows Concessionaires to recover losses or give back gains arising from fluctuations in foreign exchange rates, as payments are made for foreign currency-denominated loans that are used to fund the expansion and improvement of water and sewerage services.

There might be a slight increase in water rates during the second quarter of the year, but the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) won’t yet confirm which concession area, whether the east zone or the west zone, will be affected.
MWSS Chief Regulator Patrick Ty told Business Bulletin that the MWSS Board already convened to discuss the second quarter Foreign Currency Differential Adjustment (FCDA) rates.
This means that Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) and Manila Water Company Inc. already submitted their respective FCDA recommendations for April to June and that they’ve been approved already.

MANILA – One noble project considered as a legacy of President Rodrigo Duterte is the establishment of the Million Trees Foundation (MTF) that would ensure the continuity and sustainability of the Annual Million Trees Challenge (AMTC) for the rehabilitation of seven critical watersheds in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
This was emphasized by Reynaldo Velasco, chair of the board of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System, in a statement to the
