American Airlines has begun welcoming customers to a new 14-gate regional concourse at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).
The facility is designed to replace Gate 35X.
The new concourse, constructed by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) as part of a $1 billion initiative to transform the customer experience at DCA, provides customers a range of new amenities while offering a more seamless connection to the National Capital Region.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, together with American Airlines, launched the soft opening Tuesday of 14 gates in a newly constructed 225,000-square-foot concourse at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).
A major milestone in the airport’s Project Journey capital improvement program, the new concourse will serve as the home of American Airlines’ regional operations at DCA and provides direct, enclosed access to aircraft via jetbridges, as well as spacious waiting areas. This summer, when construction is complete, the concourse also will feature new shopping and dining options.
Designed to enhance passenger convenience and comfort, the new facility was built to complement the architectural features of DCA’s current Terminal B/C. The concourse, which includes Gates 46-59, features exposed steel arches and columns, expansive glass walls and skylights that complement the Jeffersonian domes in the existing terminal, giving travelers large, open, brightly

(Updated, 4:20 p.m.) Metro’s Board of Directors is set to approve a $4.7 billion capital and operating budget on Thursday (April 22) that includes $723 million in federal relief.
The influx of federal funds essentially renders concerns about drastic service cuts set to come in January 2022 moot. Those cuts would have potentially included closing 22 Metro stations across the system, shutting down Metrorail every day at 9 p.m., and limiting train arrivals to every 30 minutes at most stations.
Among the stations that were being proposed to close in 2022 were three yet-to-be-opened Silver Line Phase II stations Innovation Center, Loudoun Gateway, and Reston Town Center.
