Basic materials shares gain

Basic materials stocks were trading in the positive zone, with the S&P BSE Basic Materials index rising 43.5 points or 1.04% at 4237.31 at 09:48 IST. Among the components of the S&P BSE Basic Materials index, Gravita India Ltd (up 6.88%), Vikas Wsp Ltd (up 4.9%),Mangalam Cement Ltd (up 4.61%),Prakash Industries Ltd (up 4.28%),DCW Ltd (up 4.17%), were the top gainers. Among the other gainers were Grasim Industries Ltd (up 3.98%), BASF India Ltd (up 3.43%), Gujarat Fluorochemicals Ltd (up 3.06%), Sudarshan Chemical Industries Ltd (up 3.02%), and J K Cements Ltd (up 2.89%). On the other hand, National Fertilizer Ltd (down 2.47%), West Coast Paper Mills Ltd (down 2.2%), and Linde India Ltd (down 1.81%) moved lower.

Indices bounce back; FMCG shares under pressure

Key equity indices bounced from the day s low in mid-afternoon trade. FMCG shares declined for fourth sessions. The Nifty regained the 15,000 mark. At 14:21 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was up 271.16 points or 0.54% to 50,712.23. The Nifty 50 index added 54.40 points or 0.36% at 15,010.60. Sentiment was lifted by positive global cues. US Dow index futures was up 197 points, indicating a positive opening in the US stocks on Tuesday. The broader market underperformed the benchmark indices. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index slipped 1.10%. The S&P BSE Small-Cap index shed 0.92%. Sellers outnumbered buyers. On the BSE, 1100 shares rose and 1819 shares fell. A total of 200 shares were unchanged.

Among the components of the S&P BSE Finance index, Geojit Financial Services Ltd (up 7.64%), Centrum Capital Ltd (up 5.86%),Aditya Birla Capital Ltd (up 5.75%),IFCI Ltd (up 5.56%),Balmer Lawrie Investment Ltd (up 5.56%), were the top gainers. Among the other gainers were Central Bank of India (up 4.85%), SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (up 4.11%), Aditya Birla Money Ltd (up 3.66%), Indian Overseas Bank (up 2.84%), and AU Small Finance Bank Ltd (up 2.75%). On the other hand, Bank of India (down 1.84%), AAVAS Financiers Ltd (down 1.8%), and CSB Bank Ltd (down 1.44%) moved lower.
