Automakers Banking On Solid-State Batteries for Sustainability

Automakers Banking On Solid-State Batteries for Sustainability Apr 29, 2021 Legacy automakers are transitioning rapidly into the electric vehicle (EV) market, and they may have a secret weapon up their sleeve: sustainability. The next generation of high-efficiency, low-cost, long-range EV technology is on the horizon, in the form of new solid-state batteries. These new batteries are more compatible with the circular economy, providing fleet managers with new opportunities to lower their carbon footprints while appealing to the rising generation of climate-aware consumers and clients. The EV revolution has only just begun Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries are by far the most expensive part of an electric vehicle, typically accounting for 30 percent of overall costs. Cutting that cost while improving performance has been the main challenge for automakers, and they have been rising to meet it.

US Government Vehicle Fleet Going Electric

Wednesday, February 3, 2021 Electric vehicles feel inevitable even as they were less than 3% of global sales and only about 1% of global stock in 2019. It is becoming more and more evident that the driving force is less likely to be retail consumer sales than it is to be fleet sales. The most recent example of this is the United States Government. The entire Federal Fleet is now aiming to go electric. It is not hard to understand why.  According to the General Services Administration data from 2019, the 645,000 vehicles in the US Government consumed 375 million gallons of gasoline and diesel while covering 4.5 billion miles. That is a lot of gas and expense to reduce on an annual basis.

Ikea Has More Renewable Energy Than It Can Use, and That s Just the Beginning

Ikea Has More Renewable Energy Than It Can Use, and That’s Just the Beginning Feb 04, 2021 As an early adopter of rooftop solar, Ikea is always worth watching for innovative, energy-centric approaches to retailing, and the latest news from the company could ripple out to influence other retailers, too. Last week, Ikea’s parent company, Ingka Group, announced that its wind and solar assets generate more far more energy than it needs for its own operations - 132 percent more, to be exact. That’s just part of the story, though, as the company enlists its customers and partners in decarbonization as well.
