Grass-cutting scandal: EFCC presents first witness against ex-SGF

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has opened its case in the ongoing trial of a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, and three others when it presented its first witness, Mohammed Babansule, a relationship manager with the First City Monument Bank.
According to a statement on Wednesday by the EFCC’s head of media and publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, the witness, who is the account manager of the sixth defendant, Josmon Technologies Ltd, during his examination-in-chief, told the court the account opening form and other documents submitted to the bank showed that the fourth defendant, Apeh, is the signatory to the account.

A prosecution witness on today told the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) inadvertently did not approve consultancy contract for a company a former SGF, Babachir Lawal, is said to have an interest.
The witness, Hamza Adamu Buwai, who was the Head, Finance and Account of the Presidential Initiative on North East (PINE), stated this while testifying before Justice Charles Agbaza, sitting at Jabi, Abuja, in the alleged contract fraud charge brought against the former SGF and five others by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).
5144 persons, 828 companies benefit from FG Payroll Support Fund in Ondo

Some 5, 144 persons and 828 companies have so far benefited from the Federal Government (FG) Payroll Support Fund under the Survival Fund Scheme in the last three months in Ondo State.
Mrs Kosemani Kolawole, the state Focal Person for the government‘s programme, made this known on Wednesday in Akure, during a meeting with beneficiaries of the FG support programme.
Kolawole, who said that about 13,000 slots were allocated to the state by the FG, said that hospitals, hotels, chambers, schools, and other private enterprises had benefited from the programme.

The Gombe State Commissioner for Justice, Zubair Umar, has said the delay in the confirmation of Justice Beatrice Iliya, as the Chief Judge of the state is because of a fraud petition against her.
Umar dismissed the insinuation that Iliya had not been confirmed because she is a woman or because of her religion.
He also stated that Governor Inuwa Yahaya, has a track record of women inclusion in his government, adding that Gombe is the only state in northern Nigeria with women duly elected as a local government chairperson.
“There are petitions before the National Judicial Council and it was brought to the attention of Judicial Service Commission in Gombe state and we have responded to every allegation.
