Republican Predicts Over 100 GOP Lawmakers Will Challenge Electoral College Results

Illinois Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger said Wednesday he believes more than 100 members of the GOP could step forward to challenge the Congressional certification of electoral votes.
President-elect Joe Biden is expected to be certified as the winner of the 2020 presidential election on January 6. Citing baseless claims of voter fraud, President Donald Trump has refused to concede the election to Biden and encouraged Republican lawmakers to challenge the results of the Electoral College. All 50 states have already certified their election results. On Wednesday s episode of
The Bulwark Podcast, Kinzinger said a large number of Republicans could back Trump s attempt to retain the presidency by objecting to the electoral votes.

Conservative lawmakers in both chambers of the US Congress launched yet another bid on Wednesday to prevent US President-elect Joe Biden from taking oath on Jan 20.
Supporters of the outgoing US President Donald Trump needed a senator and a member of the House of Representatives to challenge the election results, and on Wednesday a Republican senator Josh Hawley of Missouri offered to back the move.
A group of conservative lawmakers in the House have already pledged to back Trump’s move to overturn the results of the presidential election.

GOP senator to delay affirming Biden victory by forcing votes on Electoral College results
Missouri Republican Sen. Josh Hawley said Wednesday he will object when Congress counts the Electoral College votes next week, which will force lawmakers in both the House and Senate to vote on whether to accept the results of President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.
Hawley is the first senator to announce plans to object to the results, which is significant because both a House member and senator are required to mount an objection when Congress counts the Electoral College votes on January 6.
The objection will not change the outcome of the election, only delaying the inevitable affirmation of Biden’s victory in November over President Donald Trump. Democrats will reject any objections in the House, and multiple Republican senators have argued against an objection that will provide a platform for Trump’s baseless conspiracy theories claiming the election was stolen from him.
Hawley Becomes First Senator Committed to Challenging Electoral College Results
Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) said he will object during the counting of the Electoral College vote process on Jan. 6, becoming the first senator to confirm they are joining an effort launched by more than a dozen House Republicans.
“I cannot vote to certify the electoral college results on Jan. 6 without raising the fact that some states, particularly Pennsylvania, failed to follow their own state election laws,” Hawley wrote in a statement on Dec. 30. “And I cannot vote to certify without pointing out the unprecedented effort of mega-corporations, including Facebook and Twitter, to interfere in this election, in support of Joe Biden,” he added.
