WASHINGTON â U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) and U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) sent a letter to Small Business Administration (SBA) Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman supporting Illinois Governor JB Pritzkerâs request for a Disaster Declaration for McLean County in Illinois as a result of severe flooding that occurred last month. Severe storms caused up to 10 inches of flooding in McLean County. The damage assessment conducted this month by the SBA found that many properties either incurred major damage or were destroyed as a result of the tornado.Â

Some Republicans buck bill for farmworkers to get legal status
âReconciliation is always a possibility,â a Senate leader says July 23, 2021 11:48 AM By Megan U. Boyanton
Top Democrats are weighing a pathway to bypass Republicans and revamp the immigration system for farmworkers to alleviate a labor shortage exacerbated by heat waves and pandemic-related dislocations.
Labor activists and agriculture industry groups are working together to push through

For the past two years, the federal government has been unfettered in its ability to borrow all the money it needed to pay the nation’s bills.
Congress temporarily suspended the debt ceiling as part of the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2019, but the blank check is set to expire on July 31, leaving lawmakers to fight over how much to raise the borrowing limit, if at all.
Senate Republicans are threatening to vote against a debt ceiling increase and have called on Democrats to lift it unilaterally using a budgetary tactic called reconciliation, allowing certain legislation to pass with only a simple majority rather than the 60 votes needed for most other bills.
