Senator Mitch McConnell warned what would happen if Democrats end the Senate filibuster in hopes of muscling legislation supporting President Joe Biden’s agenda.

Dems search for a path forward on immigrationEven as they advance piecemeal bills, Democratic leadership says they re still trying for a comprehensive solution on immigration

National Journal Dems search for a path forward on immigration Even as they advance piecemeal bills, Democratic leadership says they’re still trying for a comprehensive solution on immigration. Fresh off their legislative victory passing a COVID aid package, Democrats are running into the political realities of advancing a thornier part of their agenda: comprehensive immigration reform.  The House is set to vote Thursday on two narrow immigration bills, but an agreement on a broader package remains elusive.  A piecemeal approach may be the only way to make progress in a Congress so narrowly divided and with a Republican Party whose position on immigration has shifted from 2013, when the Senate passed an immigration overhaul that stalled in the House. The issue has compounded over the past weeks as the U.S.-Mexico border has seen a spike in migrant crossings, posing the first immigration crisis for the Biden administration.

Mitch McConnell s tirade shows that he s really getting scared

Mitch McConnell s tirade shows that he s really getting scared Sen. Mitch McConnell // White House xxxx Minority Leader Mitch McConnell s threat Tuesday to unleash never-before-seen chaos on the Senate if Democrats take aim at the legislative filibuster was viewed by progressives as a strong signal that the Kentucky Republican is beginning to get nervous about losing his most powerful tool of obstruction as support for weakening or outright abolishing the archaic rule continues to mount. Just hours after Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) became the highest ranking Senate Democrat to speak out in support of filibuster reform, McConnell the upper chamber s chief obstructionist took to the floor to vow a completely scorched-earth Senate if the majority party moves to eliminate the 60-vote threshold, which effectively gives the minority veto power over most legislation in a narrowly divided chamber.
