There s a new call to extend New York s executive order allowing people to grab an alcoholic drink to go.
The rule has been a lifeline for many Hudson Valley bars and restaurants during the pandemic but expires soon.
The New York State Restaurant Association president says restaurants make far less money from takeout than when people come into the business, so selling alcohol to go has been a way to help bring more cash in.
The businesses have truly needed it - out of the 50,000 restaurants around the state, the group estimates more than 8,000 have closed during the COVID-19 pandemic. That equates to 1 in 6.

ALBANY – Legalization of recreational marijuana in New York is expected to be right around the corner.
Senator Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D, Yonkers) said it is not a matter of if, but when.
The governor would like it passed as part of the state budget, which would translate into millions in new revenue for the state. The budget deadline is April 1.
Stewart-Cousins said there is one “little impasse” over criminality of driving while ability is impaired, but she believes that can be overcome.
“We’re trying to figure a way forward so that there will be a way of some understanding of vehicle safety. I am pretty sure that we will be able to work through and that the Assembly will as well. I am optimistic that it will be resolved sooner than later,” she said.

Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins says most of the framework on a deal has been worked out already.
However, there are still questions about how to handle impaired driving and traffic stops by police.
